It is a truly special honor to be able to recognize the incredible students, staff, and community members who make up PSD.
The themes for tonight’s Board of Education recognitions center upon exemplary efforts to support PSD employee wellness, long-lasting community partnerships that benefit thousands of our students, and work by our educators and community employers to connect students to real-world career opportunities through educator professional development.
The Teacher Externship Program: This program, funded by the PSD Foundation, pairs a teacher with a local business in the area they teach (think Science in manufacturing and healthcare) and immerses the teacher in that company for one week during the summer months. The goal is for teachers to experience working in a local industry, then take that knowledge back to their students, giving kids an idea of what to expect in industry-specific careers and how to prepare for them. Supply Our Students: This incredible program is a collaborative effort of Volunteers of America, Colorado State University, the OtterCares Foundation, PSD, and Realities for Children. These organizations work together to provide close to 8,000 backpacks filled with school supplies for students in need. (Left photo)
The Governor’s Wellness Award: PSD is the FIRST school district in Colorado to earn this award, which recognizes organizations where employee health is a true top priority. Winners are selected for demonstrating leadership for health and safety support, assessment of employee needs, worksite wellness activities, program reach to offsite workers, temporary employees and families, among other factors.
